APNIC is a critical organization in the global Internet ecosystem, responsible for accurately delegating and registering IP addresses throughout the 56 economies in the fastest growing region in the world — the Asia Pacific.  We are a member-based organization and our members can be any organization with a need for significant network infrastructure.

The Senior Training Officer position sits within our Training Unit, which forms part of APNIC’s Development Area. The Training Unit supports Internet growth and development in the region by providing technical training, capacity building and educational services. The team works to expand the capabilities, knowledge, and understanding of Internet network operators, engineers, managers, educators, and regulators to ensure they can make full and effective use of the Internet’s resources and appropriately apply relevant technologies and techniques.

The Senior Training Officer is responsible for the development and delivery of technical training materials (including labs) for the APNIC Community and the Network Operators in the Asia Pacific region. The aim of the training is to teach participants how to proficiently understand, configure, and manage their Internet infrastructure and services whilst embracing current best practices. The training is delivered as either face-to-face workshops across the Asia Pacific region (up to five days in length) or as eLearning. About You

To be successful in this role your professional background should include the following:-

  • An Internet Service Provider background with significant operational knowledge of TCP/IP, routing (including BGP, OSPF and ISIS), MPLS, IPv6 deployment, IPv4-to-IPv6 transition techniques, DNS (including DNSSEC), RPKI, RPSL, and other Internet applications - knowledge of software defined networks would also be advantageous;
  • A proven track record in developing and delivering technical training courses - experience of online based learning would also be advantageous; 
  • A demonstrated understanding of and exposure to various training methodologies;
  • An ability to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the technical areas in which training is conducted;
  • A willing and ability to perform training administrative tasks reliably;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in English (both oral and written);
  • Demonstrated presentation skills; and
  • A willingness and availability to undertake regular international travel in the Asia-Pacific region and occasionally elsewhere.
